I’m just taking a moment here to wish everyone celebrating, a happy and safe 4th of July. On this independence day, I reflect on the nature of freedom and what it has taken for Jews and gentiles alike to have the freedom we have today. I’m contemplating the very nature of freedom, what it is and what it means to truly be free in our modern era. We have all been enslaved in our ancient pasts, but for Jews, it is eternally Egypt, as we seek our promised land and work to repair our broken world and build it better for all mankind.
I hope that everyone in America, Jews, and gentiles, have a safe, happy, and reflective celebration of our independence and freedom today.
